Trainer & Facilitator: ED Academy

Part-Time Contract Position

Timing: March 2025 - March 2026 with possible extension into 2027.

Location: Hybrid: pre-scheduled monthly in-person sessions in Truro, Nova Scotia with remote work between sessions.

Program Overview: SRL Solutions, in collaboration with United Way Maritimes (UWM), is expanding the ED Academy to support new Executive Directors across the Maritimes. Launching in April 2025, the ED Academy is a comprehensive 12-month program that equips new Executive Directors with the skills, resources, and community needed to confidently lead their organizations. The Academy includes an online classroom, live coaching, mentoring, and training sessions, and access to a community portal. 

Role Overview: The Trainer and Facilitator will play a key role in delivering the ED Academy, guiding participants through the program's content and fostering a supportive learning environment. The ideal candidate is a seasoned leader with extensive experience in the non-profit sector, particularly in an Executive Director role. They should be adept at delivering and facilitating learning/adult education, providing mentorship, and encouraging the professional growth of new leaders. The facilitation approach should align with SRL Solutions' values, emphasizing trauma-informed practices, intersectional feminism, and community-centered leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Live Program Delivery: Facilitate 11 live monthly training sessions between April 2025 and March 2026 with the exception of August 2025. Sessions are to take place in person in Truro, NS, with the exception of January and February 2026 which will be held virtually.

  • Content Facilitation and Instruction: Guide participants through the online classroom resources, teaching key concepts and tools while supporting them in applying these tools and templates to their organizations.

  • Community Building: Foster a sense of community among participants by facilitating connection during the live sessions, actively engaging in the community portal, and encouraging peer-to-peer interaction.

  • Remote Support & Guidance: Offer support to participants between sessions, addressing questions and hosting monthly virtual Office Hours (optional for participants).

  • Collaboration with SRL Solutions: To identify and source guest speakers and coordinate their participation, as well as contribute to agenda development and adjusting based on participants’ evolving needs.

  • Feedback & Reporting: Collect feedback from participants and regular reporting to SRL Solutions, including monthly debrief emails and check-in meetings with SRL Solutions.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in a leadership role within the non-profit sector, with a strong preference for those with Executive Director experience.

  • Strong facilitation and coaching skills, with experience in both in-person and remote learning environments.

  • Strong training capabilities, subject matter expertise, and understanding of adult education.

  • Commitment to intersectional feminist practice, social justice, and community development principles.

  • Familiarity with the challenges faced by small non-profit organizations and the generalist nature of the ED role.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

  • Commitment to fostering thriving leaders, organizations, and a robust not-for-profit sector.

  • Comfortable with online platforms and technology used for remote support and community engagement.
